U.S. CyberDome aims to protect presidential campaigns against foreign meddling

WASHINGTON —U.S. CyberDome, a 501(c)(4) organization, has been launched to protect presidential campaigns against foreign influence at no cost.

“U.S. CyberDome is a non-partisan, not-for-profit initiative founded by a group of cybersecurity experts interested in preserving our democracy,” said former Homeland Secretary Jeh Johnson, who serves as Chairman of U.S. CyberDome’s Board of Advisors. “In the face of known, on-going efforts by foreign powers to try to interfere in our upcoming election, U.S. CyberDome could not come at a more critical juncture.”

U.S. CyberDome is comprised of cybersecurity experts who have trained and practiced at the world’s largest accredited computer forensics and incident response institute in the world, the Defense Cyber Crime Center, as well as the U.S. Department of Defense and National Institute of Standards and Technology. The team got started as cyber experts who became alarmed by increasing cyber threats and the lack of protection for campaigns and voters. They formed the non-profit organization to absorb the extraordinary cost of providing cyber protection to campaigns by working with donors and charitable foundations. Initial efforts are focused on the 2020 U.S. Presidential Campaigns and will be applied to other national campaigns over time.

U.S. CyberDome’s bipartisan Board of Advisors is led by Chairman Jeh Johnson, who served as Homeland Secretary under the Obama Administration, and advisors Lt. Gen. James Clapper (ret), former Director of National Intelligence; Michael Morell, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency; Michael Chertoff, who served as Homeland Secretary under President George W. Bush; and Brigadier General Francis X. Taylor (ret.), who served as Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security.

“Malign foreign actors continue their efforts to attack our democracy, including through the on-line penetration and disruption of our candidate and campaign organizations,” said Michael Chertoff. “U.S. Cyberdome believes that all Americans should enlist in the protection of our democratic institutions, and fortifying Cybersecurity in our political organizations is a key element in this initiative.”

“It’s not a question of ‘if’ a campaign will be hacked or trolled, it’s a question of ‘when’,” said Joseph Drissel, founder of U.S. CyberDome. “All candidates should have the freedom to speak their minds, without fear of retaliation or meddling by a foreign adversary.
